Phil Hackett's Curatorial Choice
This year is as hard as ever, such quality and diversity from so many talented artists. It is easy to choose a favourite but it is much harder to make a selection that reflects what L.O.V.E. Art is all about. My curatorial choices are in no particular order...
Infinite Facets by Ceridwen Raynor
Magical realism, reflections of dream-like memories, contemporary and classical, lovely paintings made with a camera.
Habitats Position 08 by Daniela Labos
Reminiscent of colour field paintings from half a century ago, I love the way this painting looks like a collage of ripped up paper and felt tip scribbles.
Eye Study I & II (Diptych) by Hannah Webber
The detail, the glossy surface of the sclera, the way the face phases into clouds of a watercolour painters brush cleaning water, splattered with symbols of another language.
Jude by Isobel Brigham
Delicate and strong, ethereal and yet also realistic a really fine balance of rather indelicate paint medium presented on a piece of second-hand card as if it didn't matter.
Borderline by Sam Cartwright
It’s as if the Caves of Lascaux in France and the ink wash works of China (or suiboku-ga of Japan) had a baby printed itself onto tree rings and sent it to Leicester to become wall art. At nearly 3m wide it is one of the biggest works.
